C'est l'observation de la carte - en 2013 - qui m'a amené dans la vallée du Libre. Déjà le nom est un peu étrange "Le Libre" et attire l'attention. Et puis la carte montre de grandes zones inhabitées et éloignées des voies de communication - en particulier toute la zone entre de St-Martin-des-Puits et Villerouge-Termenès - des zones rocheuses, arides où l'on trouve encore les ruines d'anciennes bergeries, et même d'une chapelle au sommet d'un Pech.
Je venais de terminer le travail sur la rivière Taurion - kdi-dctb-146-cartographie-sonore-autour-du-taurion - et j'avais envie de continuer à travailler avec une rivière. Mais cette fois la particularité de cette rivière c'est d'avoir un débit de type méditerranéen : des périodes sans eau et des périodes avec eau - l'univers sonore est donc ici tout autre.
Un jour, j'ai donc remonté le cours à sec et un monde comme caché, secret est apparu aux détours des coudes de ce lit à sec. Puis je me suis empêtré dans d'inextricables buissons et fourrés…

It was looking at the map—in 2013—that led me to the Libre Valley. The name itself, "Le Libre" is rather unusual and certainly catches the eye. The map also reveals large, uninhabited areas far from transportation routes—particularly the entire area between St-Martin-des-Puits and Villerouge-Termenès—rocky, arid regions where the ruins of old sheepfolds can still be found, and even a chapel perched atop a hill.
I had just finished my work on the Taurion River — kdi-dctb-146-cartographie-sonore-autour-du-taurion/— and I wanted to continue working with a river. But this time, the unique characteristic of this river is its Mediterranean-type flow: periods of low water and periods of high water—making the soundscape entirely different.
One day, I went upstream along the dry riverbed, and a hidden, secret world appeared around the bends of that dry riverbed. Then I became entangled in impenetrable bushes and thickets…
