Produced entirely from sounds recorded in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil and Colombia, Portals evokes the hidden world of sounds that lie beyond our perception. Whether concealed in ultra-sonic frequency registers or in the depths of the aquatic medium, these sounds bear witness to an unsuspected and teeming animal activity. Insects, frogs, bats and freshwater dolphins move about, hiding from our eyes and ears. Revealing this palette of sounds, in particular through transposition, and placing it back in the realm of the audible, Jana Irmert invites and guides us on a fascinating exploration of an unsuspected, speculative and non-human world of sound, which she exposes and recomposes in a way that is both respectful and personal, accompanying this teeming and fascinating sound material in a musical gesture of great clarity. Portals is an attempt to access the evocative power of an Amazonian forest on the brink of catastrophe, through a decentring of the listening experience delicately composed by Jana Irmert.

With uncommon mastery and precision, Rope unfolds in a suspended time that seems nonetheless ominous. As its title suggests, Rope explores the formal figure of the rope, as an interweaving of synthetic and natural fibres that hold and amalgamate, held together by the forces of tension and friction. The rope itself, as Neo Gibson explains, is knotted at regular intervals along its entire length, so that you can hang on to it. Rope unfolds slowly, evolving from the threshold of the perceptible towards denser, more ballasted electronic textures, but always on the brink of an upheaval to come. Then a melodic motif appears, seeming to carry within it an impossible consolation. In this respect, Rope balances strikingly between formal elegance, sonic gravity and an emotional charge that is almost uncontainable.

JANA IRMERT - PORTALS: Portals wurde vollstndig aus Klngen produziert, die im Amazonas-Regenwald in Brasilien und Kolumbien aufgenommen wurden, und beschwrt die verborgene Welt der Klnge herauf, die jenseits unserer Wahrnehmung liegt. Ob in ultraschallhohen Frequenzbereichen oder in den Tiefen des aquatischen Mediums verborgen, zeugen diese Klnge von einer ungeahnten und pulsierenden tierischen Aktivitt. Insekten, Frsche, Fledermuse und Swasserdelfine bewegen sich, verstecken sich vor unseren Augen und Ohren. Indem sie diese Klangpalette insbesondere durch Transposition offenlegt und wieder in den Bereich des Hrbaren zurckfhrt, ldt Jana Irmert uns zu einer faszinierenden Erkundung einer ungeahnten, spekulativen und nicht-menschlichen Klangwelt ein, die sie auf respektvolle und persnliche Weise offenlegt und neu komponiert, wobei sie dieses wimmelnde und faszinierende Klangmaterial mit einer musikalischen Geste von groer Klarheit begleitet. Portals ist ein Versuch, durch eine von Jana Irmert fein komponierte Dezentrierung des Hrerlebnisses Zugang zur evokativen Kraft eines Amazonaswaldes am Rande der Katastrophe zu finden. 7038634357 -`ROPE': Mit ungewhnlicher Meisterschaft und Przision entfaltet sich Rope in einer schwebenden Zeit, die dennoch bedrohlich wirkt. Wie der Titel schon andeutet, untersucht Rope die formale Figur des Seils als Verflechtung von synthetischen und natrlichen Fasern, die halten und verschmelzen, zusammengehalten von den Krften der Spannung und Reibung. Das Seil selbst ist, wie Neo Gibson erklrt, in regelmigen Abstnden ber seine gesamte Lnge geknotet, sodass man sich daran festhalten kann. Rope entfaltet sich langsam und entwickelt sich von der Schwelle des Wahrnehmbaren hin zu dichteren, ballastierten elektronischen Texturen, immer jedoch am Rande einer bevorstehenden Umwlzung. Dann taucht ein melodisches Motiv auf, das einen unmglichen Trost in sich zu tragen scheint. In dieser Hinsicht balanciert Rope auf eindrucksvolle Weise zwischen formaler Eleganz, klanglicher Schwere und einer fast unfassbaren emotionalen Ladung.
