More Info

Deeply sad and melancholic soundtrack to one of the saddest films ever made – Angels of the Universe by FRIDRIK THOR FRIDRIKSSON. Most material is made by HÖH, two tracks come from SIGUR ROS." [Drone Rec. info 2001]

"Having been out of print for two years, the renowned Angels Of The Universe soundtrack - combining the talents of Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Sigur Ros - is at long last back in stock. Angels Of The Universe is a film by Iceland's best-known director Fredrik Thor Fridriksson, which upon its original release had been viewed by over half of the Icelandic population at the cinema. This soundtrack was originally released via Sigur Ros' own label, Krunk, and features the Hilmarsson score and two substantial Sigur Ros tracks that were only otherwise available via the Ny Batteri EP. Hilmarsson's compositions are wonderful - things of often quite breathtaking beauty - leaving Sigur Ros, placed at the end of the disc, with a tough act to follow. 'Bium Bium Bambalo' matches the emotive firepower of all that came before though, traversing the same slow and mournful terrain charted by the ( ) album. 'Death Announcements And Funerals' is a very different piece, sounding like Pink Floyd in full swing, with a spot of maudlin Hammond organ driving the music forwards. Despite being derived from two different artists the music on Angels Of The Universe sounds like a very unified body of work, and as you'd probably expect from any Icelandic music with orchestras involved, it's vast - full of drama and sophistication."
