Gross !
Wonderful dark spheres again based mainly on pedal steel guitar sounds, here with some additional sources like flute, voice, cello, choir.. unbelievable long reverberating and waving, metallic vibrating flow-patterns with an archaic-monumental quality. Really great, between mediation & elation.
“This stark, haunting, six-movement work - essentially five variations and a lengthy coda - springs directly from Smith’s critically acclaimed 2000 CD, Nikko Wolverine, utilizing the same composer-designed instruments in a more rarefied manner. A true son of the American maverick tradition in music, Smith is not content to dream his soundworld, so he builds it: large, sculpture-like metal instruments that he fine-tunes to the needs of his music.” [label info]
